Abiding in Christ

Abiding in Christ means accepting that He is in control.
Remain in my love.
John 15:9b

Jesse Collins silently followed the rest of the family to the van. He could hardly
believe that Uncle Gary passed away.
He had prayed and prayed, asking God to make
him better.
Now Uncle Gary was gone.
Jesse's father put a hand on his shoulder. "You're awful quiet, buddy."
"I'll never pray again," Jesse said.
Mr. Collins paused before answering, "Never's a long time. Why?"
"I asked God to make Uncle Gary better. And He didn't." Jesse wiped tears away.
"You guys go on ahead. I want to talk to Jesse," his father said to the others. He led
Jesse to a stone bench. "Jesse, right now you're pretty mad at God, huh?"
Jesse nodded. God had let Uncle Gary die. His uncle was his favorite person in the
world.
Remember how you told me that Jesus was your Savior and that you wanted to
know more about Him?" Mr. Collins asked.
       Jesse reluctantly nodded.
"Well, one of the things about Him is the fact that He's in control of our lives. That's
what we agree to when we ask Him unto our lives. We also agree that whatever He does
is right. Right?"
       Jesse shrugged.
"You know I miss my brother," his father said as he wiped away tears of his own.
"But I know, Jess, that God is still in control."
